From the Middle Ages onwards, bonfires were lit on the five highest peaks of the province so that everyone could see them and the General Assemblies of Bizkaia were called.
Oiz is one of these summits, located south of Lea Artibai, at 1,026 metres above sea level. There is no other place like it to contemplate the mountains and valleys that populate the region. Lea and Artibai, two of the cleanest rivers in the Basque Country, are born on its slopes, and along their courses you will find beautiful meadows and forests. Iluntzar, to the east, and Kalamua, to the west, are the other two main watchtowers of the region, guardians of the surrounding farmhouses and green fields.
